The pitch

“Welcome to Better Buy Watches! We know that you will find exactly what you are looking for right here. Be on time for those special moments, make time for the special people that we sometimes take for granted.” Watches, the homepage said, “aren’t just for keeping time, they are an accessory”, and make great gifts “for others and especially for yourself”. By 2010 it added a case for shopping online at all: no crowded mall, no parking, “you can shop in your bathrobe if you like”.

02

What it sold

Genuine men’s and ladies’ Casio, Seiko and Timex watches: Casio Waveceptor atomic-solar and Tough Solar models, Baby-G digital and analog-digital watches for women, Seiko Coutura and Tressia, Timex Reef Gear and TMX fashion watches. Product pages listed five or so models each with an item number and a US-dollar price — typically $29.99 to $99.99, sometimes with a struck-through list price.

How it was built

The site ran on a hosted site-builder: every page lived under /site/1609098/page/<number>, statistics beacons under /stats/1609098/, and images through the builder’s image-wrap service. Page titles and descriptions were written for search engines (“Check out our selection of Casio atomic watches at Better Buy Watches!”). The footer read “copyright 2006” throughout.

What became of it

The shop’s last homepage capture is January 2010; a year later the domain was parked. Its operator is not named on any archived page and is not named here. Nothing connects the 2006 shop to the 2018 blog except the domain name: the blog arrived after seven years of parking, built on different software, selling a different thing. The old /site/ addresses redirect here.

This site is an archive of a domain name. It sells no watches, reviews none, links to no seller, and is not affiliated with any watchmaker or any party to the cases it records.
